School Community Council exemption and opportunity to serve
School Community Councils (SCCs) include elected parents, staff, and the principal, as required by state law. They analyze student data, contribute to school improvement plans, evaluate their effectiveness, and help develop safety & digital citizenship plans. SCCs also manage LAND Trust funds, which are distributed annually to Utah public schools from a state trust.
Even though Life Skills Academy is extremely small, it does receive LAND Trust dollars for academic achievement improvements. In lieu of an official SCC, the principal of Life Skills Academy, and a Canyons District Elementary Director meet each year to discuss the allocation of these funds under current law. Parents are welcome to view the plan on this page and participate in this discussion, if desired, by contacting the Life Skills Academy principal.
An SCC exemption was awarded to Life Skills Academy for not meeting the minimum parent participation required for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school years and will be requesting an exemption for the 2025-2026 school year as well.
